2012
May 4-5, 2012 was the May
Day's celebration of spring that brought Sly Fox back to the
Brick House in old Elk Grove. The band was geared
up and ready for an exciting weekend and we had some surprises for our
guests. Beginning with the new Adel hit "Someone like you" and
we included some Latino favorites for the annual Cinco De Mayo
party. The crowd was enthusiastic and ready to dance both nights. Greg's
brother Alan showed up Saturday with a harem of six (count em') six
ladies in tow. He brought them out to the dance floor one or two at a time
until the last set when he found himself surrounded by dancing ladies
holding hands with him in the middle. It reminded me of my childhood days
playing "Ring around the rosy". It was a good weekend all around and
the weather co-operated with spring in the air. Next weekend we're back at
the Spindrift. We may even pull out "Red Solo Cup" for a
reminder of the fun we had last time.
April 28th the band was back at
Judy's Wild Wrangler Saloon in Vacaville. Turning in some
smokin' sets the band was is good form on that warm night and we partied
hard with the crowd. It was nice to see many of our old friends and
the band put our hearts and souls into the performances. As this month
draws to a close we look forward to out schedule in May.
April 27,2012
Sly Fox played for the much anticipated Heavenly Boosters
fund raiser that was held in The Jean Harvey Center in Walnut
Grove. After a fine dinner with wine the auction was held with many
bidders bidding for some of the prizes that were offered. Then at 8Pm it was
time to strike up the band. We played an hour and a half long set to the
delighted folks that were in attendance.
April 20-21 found Sly Fox
back at one of our favorite haunts The Brick House. As is
usually the case the band was in good form and ready to connect with
both old friends and some new converts to the Sly Fox music lovers
association. We show cased some new music and we will be back in two weeks
on May 4-5th. to continue our never ending story of trying to have as much
fun through music and performance as we can muster.
April 19th The band began
recording some new material for our audio demo. It will be completed
soon and added to our existing demos.
April 14, 2012 Was the scene of
the first ever Red Solo Cup Party at the Spindrift Restaurant
located on the Delta Loop near Rio Vista. A red solo cup
is the now infamous plastic cup used for beverages (mostly beer) in a song
penned by Toby Keith. The band is always ready to get involved in the
party spirit. So we dawned our red solo cup party hats and proceeded to
party with the crowd at the Spindrift. It was delightfully fun and the room
was alive with dancing and a party atmosphere. Sly Fox will return next
month on May 12th to once again enjoy the Spindrift spirit and to dine at
the historic restaurant.
March 31, 2012 It was a rainy
night but that didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the Judy's Wild
Wrangler Saloon crowd. From the first song to the last there was a
constant presence on the dance floor and the people were ready to party with
the band. Frankie (Fox) Lizarraga, our bass player was celebrating
his 62nd. birthday and the birth of his latest grand child. "It's a girl",
exclaimed Frank who was accompanied by his wife Josie for the happy
occasion. This marks the 13th grandchild with #14 coming in two weeks.
That's just about the time Sly Fox will venture into the Spindrift
on the Delta Loop for the first time. Tressa promised to
deliver some new pictures that were taken (as always) by hubby Bo.
More later, have a Happy Easter!
March 23, 2012 found Sly Fox
back at one of our favorite haunts. The Eagles Lodge #9. After
enjoying a nice dinner, we took to the stage and as we began to play the
audience all got up from their seats and began dancing. Greg and Bruce had
their sisters from different cities in attendance. Neither had heard the
band before. The band was in fine form and turned in three very danceable
sets including the new Beatles medley and Rollin in the deep by Adel, the
song of the year. It was a nice evening. There are some new pictures posted
on the Gallery page, have a look. Bye :)
March 16-17 2012 The band was
really up for the St.Patty's Day weekend at the Feather Falls
Casino. Once again we played more than sixty songs a night as
slogged our way through the four one hour sets. It always amazes me how the
band can rise for the occasion and perform really well. I guess it all gets
down to the fact that practice makes perfect. We pulled out all of our new
music and it was well received by our audiences. So we'll all get a couple
days rest and look forward to the next group of gigs that await the band. By
the way, we did outfit ourselves in full St.Patrick's Day regalia. We
will post pictures as soon as we get them. Look in the gallery.
March 9-10 Our two dates at
the Brick House were full houses and the people were ready to get
down with the band. We played the Beatles medley and the people were very
into the music. We met many new friends and we hope to have them follow the
band as we move around like the gypsies' we have become.
The band has been working on a new
Beatle's medley. Which will be played for the first time this
weekend at the Brick House .
We are also gearing up for the return to
the Feather Falls Casino in Oroville March 16-17, with some
new Adel music that we have been getting many requests for since she
swept the Grammys. Of course since St Patrick's Day is on the 17th we
will be breaking out some Irish tunes to go along with the
Green outfits and Beer. Check us out if you're in the area.
February 18th and the band was
back at Judy's Wild Wrangler Saloon in Vacaville. When we walked into the club to
set up, there wasn't a soul in the place. I jokingly commented to the
bartender that she should take the closed sign off of the front door.
We had a laugh and got to work. By the end of the first set though, the
place had begun to fill up. The crown was enthusiastic and wanted to dance
to the music. This drove the band to play with even more energy.
All in all it was a spectacular night at Judy's. One of our best ever.
We'll be back on April 28th. to recreate the same excitement.
February 17th found Sly Fox back
at the Eagles Lodge playing for the most dancing oriented
group that we have ever preformed for. These folks are up with
the very first number and continue all night long as though it's their
workout time. We love to play for these most appreciative of dancers. We
always take advantage of the fine meals served before the band plays. It's a
good way to break bread with many of the people who show up every time we
play.
Many thanks to the Eagles Lodge attendees.
February 3-4 at The Brick
House in old Elk Grove was a mad house. But in a good way. The crowd
was lively and enthusiastic both nights.
It sure seems to the band that things are looking up and people are ready to
get out and shake a tail feather after a long recession.
That is good news for the band who are always ready to get into party mode
with our audiences. Bring back and share the good times.
Lets live as big as we can because "come on people, we ain't dead yet".
Next up The Eagles Lodge
Last Friday night January 27th,
we returned to the Eagles Lodge#9 for our first gig in 2012.
We saw many of the same faces that are always in attendance. There were many
new people there and as usual the dinner was flavorful and abundant. The
band was in fine form and the dancers were on the floor tearing it up with
energy and joy. The band always responds favorably when the dance reaction
is so strong.
Judy's Wild Wrangler Saloon
in Vacaville was the scene of our latest endeavor to bring the crowd to its
feet and to get on the dance floor. It worked as Sly Fox unleashed several
new songs that we have been working on. January 21st was a cool night
outside but inside Judy's, things were heating up nicely as the crowd was
into having some fun with the band.
The band played the Bow and Arrow
lounge again at the Feather Falls Casino this last weekend
January 13-14 & 15. We made
many new friends and some fans who came in and enjoyed the show and then
returned the next night to hear some of their favorite music. Frank (bass) drove us
all to visit the Eagles Lodge in old town Oroville on Saturday where
we were treated to a nice visit and tour of the facility by Bev the
coordinator for the lodge. Lots of history in that old converted bank
building. The band enjoyed watching the playoffs while munching on a variety
of snacks and beer. We (Frank, Greg and Bruce) were cheering and having a pretty good time. Go Niners!
I will be posting new pictures on the gallery page that were
shot by Bo during our performances.
Next up, Judy's Wild Wrangler Saloon in Vacaville this
Saturday night.
